Antique Bakery

Antique is one of the most ridiculous and enjoyable movies I have ever seen. It's a weird mix of absurdism and sad story lines that keep throwing you off your footing. Some parts are quite outrageous and funny, while the relationship between the characters lurches forward.

Naturally though a movie about four men in a patisserie relies heavily on the eye candy and on this front Antique does not disappoint. Besides the men's great hair and clothes, I also love the interiors in this film. Too cute!

I won't try to reinvent the description of this film when it's really quite simple. Here are some others who have reviewed it:

Iheartkimchi: 'The movie looks REALLY REALLY REALLY gay.
Seoulbeats: "Antique Bakery" is crazy sweet

Flying High

Dong Bang Shin Ki's airport pics are so awesome once again! It's always great to see Yoochun smiling, and although you can't see it in these pics, this time he really did cut his hair!

And I totally have to agree with some comment I read somewhere that said something like, 'Even when JJ is not posing for a picture, he is posing for a picture.' All his photos turn out great, even when it's the back of his head! Lol.

Yunho's style has been ON FIRE lately. Not just at the airport but also in the backstage reports during Secret Code: he knows what suits him and the neat & narrow look of bermuda shorts and cool hat is a definite winner. So elegant!

(Where did I save the pic where he is wearing some unique print shorts? *runs off to look for it*)

Your profile is destructing my spinal marrow.

Although the pacing in this show was weird and I would really have loved to see more of Hotaru & her manager's happy ending, I still loved the ending. So I transcribed the subs of the last scene just for memories :)

Buchô comes home to find Hotaru.

Buchô: Amemiya.

Hotaru: Welcome home.

What do you mean, welcome home? What are you here for?

I’ve returned.

Whatever for? I thought you said you changed just a bit after your last love? I thought you were climbing the staircase of your life alone?

I did. About two.

(Buchô sighs.) The staircase of your life has only two steps?

I climbed two steps, and then summer came.

If it’s come, so what?

I was wondering how the porch has been.

How it’s been…

I was thinking, I want to see manager. When I left this house, I cried non-stop. I should’ve been at my happiest, what with the prospect of living with my love, but the moment I walked out of the door, I couldn’t stop my tears. I cried so much, I couldn’t do anything about it. Even when living with him, at the end of the day, for some reason, I wanted to talk to you. When he broke up with me, I wanted to see you. Even when I started to live alone, at the end of the day I’d think, I want to talk to manager on that porch. I couldn’t forget you. I wanted to see you again, in training wear and a samurai knot. I came back because I wanted to see you. I decided this by myself, because it’s my own life.

Amemiya…

I wanted to see you. To see you… to see you… why…?

“Why?” Because you’re in love with me. I love you too.

(Both at the same time) I wonder why…?

Anyway, Amemiya…

Yes.

There are some things you can’t overcome, even if you love each other. You… (Buchô walks off to the kitchen. Hotaru sits down, and Buchô comes back with a beer.)

Stand up. Just stand up.

Yes.

It’s not correct to enter a house and sit down without permission.

I’m sorry.

Here. (Gives Hotaru the beer. Hotaru looks confused.) Move over there.

Huh?

I mean… come to this side. (Hotaru continues to look confused. Buchô sighs and
pushes her to sit on the porch.) Come on. I sit here… and you sit there. That place is especially for you. Welcome home.

(Hotaru starts to cry.) Manager! Thank you so much! I made you wait so long.
Itadakimasu! (Hotaru drinks the beer.) Just as I thought… You are the best! (Both laugh.)

We need to make a new cohabitation treaty. 1. Do not lock someone in the bathroom all by himself.

2. Beware of fat percentage.

3. Use the table fairly.

4. Our pension should also be fair.

Are you planning to live here after you grow old?

5. Even when old and feeble, nursing should be fun.

6. If I get a girlfriend, you must leave here.

Huh?

Thinking about it, it seems a pity to waste my life here.

Huh??

When I fall in love, it’s your turn to cheer on for my love.

Huh???

Unlike you, I’m sure I have a glorious future awaiting me.

HUH????

You, on the other hand, will probably never fall in love again. You will not fall in love with another man except me. Not if you die. Not even after. Not even if you reincarnate. Even if you reincarnate, you’ll still be in love with me.

(Exasparated, Hotaru grabs a newspaper, lies down and covers herself with it.)

Hey! Listen to me, don’t sleep! Wake up. Wake up, or I shall kiss you!

(Hotaru sits up, shocked, then goes back to pretending to sleep.)

Wake up! Wake up and listen to me. Ahomiya!

(Hotaru looks at the newspaper.) Ah! Yamaguchi Momeo retired?! (Note: a famous female singer who retired in 1980.)

What date is that newspaper?! (Hotaru starts laughing.)

Himono-onna

I've just finished watching the ten-episode Hotaru no Hikari 'dorama' (love that word :P) and I just want to watch it all over again.

Amemiya Hotaru is a 'himono-onna' or 'dried-up fish woman' who's good at work, but at home turns into a big slob in sweats and with her hair in a samurai knot. However, her lifestyle gets a big shock when her landlord's son moves in and turns out to be her boss! He's the total opposite: clean, neat (puts the bear correctly in the fridge), wears the jinbei around the house (which is so awesome). Then Hotaru also goes on to fall in love with her new co-worker which she needs a lot of advice for, etc. etc.

The show is really, really funny- mostly thanks to the manager being boggled by Hotaru's behavior, or otherwise making fun of it. You could say Buchô is the actual star of the show :P. Their chemistry is the best, but the supporting cast are also very adorable!

At first I thought it was a shame that Hotaru's love interest Makoto Teshima gets so little screen time, but in the end the story is not about him anyway! Thanks to this though his character is a little flat (or should I say dense, haha).

A review I read on another blog described this show quite concisely: "It's like Nodame Cantabile, except with beautiful interiors instead of classical music." It's true, the house they live in is amazing! But I would say Hotaru no Hikari has a simpler and yet more mature story line. Maybe because Nodame and Hotaru are not that similar- in some ways, yes (messy lifestyle and suppressed ambition), but I feel like Nodame behaves more intuitively than Hotaru, and Hotaru is more considerate than Nodame.

Still, Nodame Cantabile is now joined on my 'favorite shows' list by Hotaru no Hikari. Whereas the first is my 'winter drama', I guess the latter will become my 'summer drama' to fit this season.

A Day in the Life of Life Journey #02

I've been listening to 'The Life Journey', such a magnaminous band name but their music lives up to it.

""The most beautiful thing is the world, is the world itself. Open your heart, your door. I don't know what can I say. Tears welled up in his eyes. Well done. Well done."
